Labor Day-Traveling Onward

Sunday morning we got up and went to Church in the Taos Ward.  It was a very friendly Ward and it was really nice to be there with them.  We went back tot he hotel, ate lunch and packed up.  We began the 45 minute drive up to Red River.  On the way we made a stop at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge.  We parked at one end and walked all the way across and back.  It stand 650 feet above the river and spans over 1200 feet. On the way back over, about 10 feet from the end, Naomi managed to slip her shoe off and it plummeted over the bridge and into the gorge.  Needless to say that one was a goner and she had to go shoeless for the rest of the trip.  We loaded back into the van and continued on the road.  We stopped at a Fish Hatchery just outside of Questa.  The grow over 2 million trout a year to stock the rivers and lakes with in Northern New Mexico, we took a self guided tour and learned all about the process of hatching and raising fish, it was actually pretty interesting.  Afterward the kids got to feed the trout in a pond they have.  Then we decided to fish at a little lake they have nearby.  First we had to get out out new rod and reels and read the instructions on how to use them.  It was pretty comical to see us sitting in the parking lot trying to figure it out. I don't think we are going to be called the Anglers of the Year anytime soon.  Sadly, I come from a long line of family who are excellent fishers, I just don't go often enough to retain the skill Some how we got it figured out and were able to fish with the kids for awhile. Then we were on our way again.  The rest of the drive was equally beautiful.  We arrived in Red River, checked in to our Lodge and I made dinner while Keith and the kids went on walk. After dinner we had popcorn and hot chocolate, it was nice and cool out so it was a perfect end to the evening!

You can tell that these fish are well fed.  The big one was almost two feet long and that is no fish tale!
