For thanksgiving this year we went a little nontraditional. Keith had Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off so he wanted to go on a trip. We convinced my parents to have thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday, luckily they happily obliged the request. We had a yummy dinner, seriously the food was so good! We talked and played with the kids. Later that night we had some friends over for pie and had a great time. The next morning we got up and headed down to Ruidoso, NM. Eli liked to call it "Free Doe So", he even made up a little jingle and sang it to us the whole way down! It is a few hours south and slightly east of Albuquerque. It is a beautiful town up in the mountains. They have some gorgeous resorts and a ski hill as well. There are tons of fun shops and great restaurants. The kids loved swimming in the hotel pool. I can't believe that I did not get a picture of them seeing as it was one of their favorite things. We also made the wise decision of getting a suite at the hotel. It was huge, bigger than our first two apartments. It was prefect, because once the kids went to bed in the other room, we could stay up and watch tv and visit. Our last road trip we all crammed into one room. It was pretty boring just sitting there in the dark when the kids went to bed at 8:00 and we couldn't go anywhere.
On the way home we stopped at some historical sights along the way. It was a wonderful and relaxing trip!
We stopped at a Ghost Town called White Oak. How do you like that restroom outside the old schoolhouse? The best part is they have a container of hand sanitzer on the wall, so people still use it!

On the way back we stopped at Gran Quivira National Monument. You are able to go through all of the ruins. It was pretty neat.
The famous Owl Bar and Cafe in San Antonio, NM. They are famous for their green chili hamburgers. Last time we were nearby we tried to go but the wait was too long. This time we took a 40 mile dirt road out of our way home to try again. We got right in and were not disappointed with the green chili, it was delish!

Did I tell you that my mom worked there for four months as a traveling nurse. . . They loved it there but we never went down to visit. Looks like a good time was had by all. Happy Holidays!
What a great time! I am so glad that you take the opportunity to get away and enjoy some precious family moments and make great memories.
I need to make a note of all these great places to go in New Mexico! Sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. You spoiled yourself by getting a suite - now it will be hard to go back to sharing!!!

Your trip looked so fun. My kids would think that was the life. If I show them, we will have to go for sure...of course I wouldn't mind. Fun times for you P.
